Join our grass roots movement to fight for the working class!
Our communities are strongest when we take responsibility for our own communities. The state needs to take an active role in enabling expedited resources to get to the communities affected by federal occupation. The state should have a protocol for getting resources into the hands of destabilized communities across the state to ensure our neighbors are nourished and housed, now and in the future.
Every individual deserves a place to call home. For too long have we put off housing the most vulnerable in Minnesota. We need to enact an eviction moratorium for the duration of ICE’s occupation. We need to make critical investments in long-term housing that is not only stable, but affordable. Building housing means nothing if we don’t limit the amount of housing organizations can buy. Housing is one of the most basic necessities, and Minnesotans deserve access to it.
We owe a debt of gratitude to the work of everyday people doing the most important jobs for each other. My administration will work with the Legislature to strengthen worker classifications for gig-economy workers, raise the prevailing wage in the construction industry, and codify safe staffing ratios in professions of care. With strong unions in all industries from education, construction, and the very healthcare that uplifts and protects us all at our most vulnerable, we are tasked with continuing the legacy of the labor movement to ensure there is dignity and financial security for the working class. Ignoring workers is not an option.
Minnesotans deserve to be healthy and nourished by our food and medical systems. Minnesotans cannot tolerate when the federal government withholds aid as punishment; it is cruel and wrong. I will work with the Legislature to increase our SNAP contingency fund should aid be withheld again. Minnesota will build creative partnerships between grocery retailers and community organizations to prevent unnecessary food waste. We will invest in programs that bring down the cost of medical care across the state. To address healthcare costs, Minnesota will be the first state in the union to guarantee universal healthcare to its residents.
Every individual deserves to contribute to our economy and maximize their potential. Without strong support in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors, Minnesota neglects to lead in our economy. Minnesota will invest in PreK-12 education, higher education, and job infrastructure that brings us quality jobs with higher wages and benefits, especially investments in green energy and worker cooperatives across all industries. Minnesotans want to better their communities; we need robust networks to create change.
We are the stewards of our land and waters. Federal deregulation is gaining momentum to extract from the Boundary Waters and other state and federal lands. The bare minimum is requiring full catastrophe insurance and criminal prosecution for bad actors. As a last resort, I will use the State Patrol and National Guard to prevent any mining in our protected lands. Minnesota’s namesake, Mni Sota, means land of sky-tinted waters. Let’s keep it that way.
